President Yasser Arafat strongly condemned the attacks in the United States. President Arafat stated, "The Palestinian leadership declares its genuine sorrow and unreserved condemnation of this dangerous and criminal act, which targeted the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon, and other locations in the United States".

In a press statement he delivered from the presidential headquarters in Gaza City, President Arafat stated, "I express my sincere condolences to the American People and the American President, not just in my name but on behalf of the Palestinian People. This crime is completely unacceptable and utterly shocking". The President added, "I extend my sincere condolences to President George W. Bush".

President Yasser Arafat expressed the Palestinian People's condolences to American families and the innocent victims to who had fallen victim to these horrific crimes.
